Everything Works out for the Good

I wrote this  in 1994 around one of the hardest verses I ever wrote a song around: Romans 8:28. It is many times the most difficult verse to convince humankind about. Whatever God is doing right now, at this moment, is going to have the ultimate end result of being good. It does not mean that the situation itself is good. It means God is going to do something good with it. There are those of us who are going to contest that statement when we are going through the darkest moments. Maybe we just lost a loved one---a parent, a child, a spouse, a friend. Perhaps we have just been diagnosed with a life-threatening disease. For some it may have been a car accident. For others, a divorce or an estranged child. Maybe someone lost their home, a job, or a will to continue to fight for life itself. “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” 

Many times I have heard the question: “How could a loving God ____________? (Insert situation.) Why?” Life is chock full of pain. But why? How could He? 

Here is the answer I feel that God has answered into my spirit in my life’s hardest moments: In Luke 24:26, Jesus tells the disciples on the road to Emmaus, "Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and then to enter His glory?" This verse explains that his suffering, death, and resurrection were the essential, predetermined path for him to enter into his glory. God has designed us to be able to share in His suffering to understand Him personally and deeply to relate to Jesus’ time on this earth. We get to understand Him, know Him, commune with Him, and then one day, live with Him. This world of pain is not the end result but are stones on the path. One day we can share in His glory, and these rough moments are things we have to go through to get there.

Remember in the middle of life’s hard circumstances there is an ultimate glory we get to share. I have another song that is already on this channel called, “It won’t Be This Way Long.” The bridge states it this way:

 “Remember these struggles—
they’re just circumstances
that one day you’ll find your way through.”

God is a good God. He fills our lives and hearts full of His steadfast love. He allows the pain but He never neglects us, forgets us, or abandons us. One day, He will show us exactly what glory He got from the hardest moments we had to endure.
