A Reflection of You

Scripture tells us in the last days people will be lovers of themselves more than lovers of God, and, among a list of other things, selfishly motivated. We are supposed to be walking a walk every day that reflects in increasing increments, the nature of Jesus. "Greater love has no man than this: that he lays down his life for his friends (John 15:13)." "In everything, do unto others as you would have others do unto you (Matthew 7:12). We are not to treat people like objects, using them up like a bottle of window cleaner, only to throw them away when the contents have been expended. We are to approach each person asking, "What can I give?" not "What can I get?" "What do THEY need?" Not, "How can I use this person to get what I need?"

Human dynamics are complicated. Sometimes it is time to walk away. Sometimes you do the best you can and the results still fall flat, but the heart we maintain should esteem the other person ahead of ourselves  (Philippians 2:3). It is a heart posture.

Scripture tells us it is like looking in a mirror.

James 1:23-25

For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

We comb or hair, brush our teeth, check everything out, then walk away from the mirror. As the day goes by, if that is the last time we look in the mirror, there could be smudges, stains, and spills piling up, and we would never know. It is important to check in often with Jesus and ask Him to show us where those smudges may have landed. We need to take the time to ask Him to clean them off, and ensure that we stay in a repentant heart posture.

This song should be the prayer of every believer. We have made it ours, and hope you will make it yours, as well.

Matthew 7:15-23

Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them. "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.  Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?'  And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'
