Let the Bridges Burn

There are seasons in life where God does call people to faithfulness in adversity. You do not leave it; you embrace it. You continue to make calls when they do not return the calls. You continue to invite them when they do not show up. You continue to let yourself be rejected. You continue to serve when they continue to take advantage and "despitefully use you" as it says in Scripture. You learn to love much in the way God called Hosea to: consistently and with abandon when it is not appreciated or returned. You end up with a lot of one-sided "friendships" and a lot of disappointment. There is a season where you stay quiet as you are insulted, do not defend yourself when you are misjudged and maligned, gossiped about and cast out. Sometimes being the hands and feet of Jesus in a situation requires you give what you do not even have yourself. You learn that sometimes God calls you to the revolving door ... not because the other person listens or changes. Sometimes it does not even make a small dent. You will find, however, that if you are faithful, it does change you. It does strengthen you as it also breaks you. You will not be the same person on the other side of the process.

Then sometimes there is a season God ushers us into when in it is time to be done and put it behind us. Sometimes we are reluctant to let go completely because of the magnitude of what we have invested, and it seems it will be a waste. God does not waste obedience; the result just may not look like we thought it would when we started the process. Jesus says when we have finished delivering a message He gave us and it is not accepted/received, we are to shake the dust off and move on and leave the results in His hands. This song is about that season.

Those who have been through a certain kind of process will completely "get" this song. There is a season to hang in there, fight through it, pray through it and hold on, but when it's done, it is time to take the lessons learned, shake off the dust, and move on without looking back.
