I Will Press On

This song is one we had written one way, then replaced much of the second verse years later after going through a long process with God. The original words (by Ken) were: "Out on the dark horizon, I see a distant light; It's Jesus calling to me, trust by faith, not sight." Years later, after we had been through 1997 and its subsequent fallout, Kim replaced the words of those first two lines with what the words now are. I would say the first set of words were more where we were in 1991, and then the words we now stick with fit the story we lived much better.

Opposition is guaranteed. If you find yourself standing in a tough spot where God dictates one thing but people pressure you to do the opposite, you have to choose obedience. It does not matter who the other person is or how powerful they might appear to be at the time. Mordecai always has a Haman (read the book of Esther). He could have chosen to bend his knee to Haman, give in to the power Haman seemed to have. He chose to honor God instead, refused to bow his knee to this "self-exalted man," chose to keep calling out the evil around him, and he eventually saw victory over his oppressor. Not only that, many other people were rescued as well. It seems very attractive sometimes to look at the wreckage and say, "Wow. Looks like the other side won this round." We have to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, realign ourself with the mission we were given, and remind ourselves that Jesus never loses a battle. Ever.

We had some pretty giant giants through the years. This song has been our reminder to keep going and stand firm, no matter what the battles have looked like.

But the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.
